SciFair Steps
The shedule of the SciFair program is different for every team, but the overall structure is the same for each one:
- Introduction
- Get to know your team and mentors.
- Discuss group goals, expectations, and background.
- Learn to use the CUni browser, and the available resources.
- Visit some existing exhibits to get a feel for possibilities.
- Homesteading
- Learn to build 3D objects in CUni, and to add interactivity to them.
- Build a personalized space to practice building skills and to express yourself.
- Start discussing project goals and ideas.
- Have an open-house to share your builds and project ideas with other teams and visitors. Visit other teams' open houses to see what they are doing.
- Choose project and research (completed by mid-program)
- Discuss potential science-based project ideas, as a team, focusing on Cornell research.
- Make a group decision about the topic(s) that will be covered.
- Gather and organize information about the topic.
- Begin the planning process for the world design.
- Build Project
- Decide on individual roles and tasks.
- Plan the layout and content of the space, and general design.
- Build, review, test, and modify the parts of the exhibit. Add features and make changes as appropriate.
- Consider how an independent user will approach your project, as well as how you will present it to an audience.
- Meet with an expert in the field if possible.
- Showcase
- Present your project to local community members, and online visitors, at a planned event. Show them what you learned, and introduce them to your topic.
- Plan and rehearse your presentation so it will be clear and smooth. Make sure visitors will be able to follow you through the space; chat clearly, and use your avatar to cue your audience. Share the presentation work among your team.
- Have fun!
